Hello, everyone! We just got off the phone with Warren from his half-way call. He’s doing GREAT! He sounds happy and he says things aren’t as physically hard as he thought they might be. There are still very challenging days, but he’s really doing well.

We’re learning that there is a big lag between when Warren writes letters and when we receive them. Here’s his week 1 update, which arrived to our house a few days ago but we were out of town. We should have another letter update within a few days. Some of the experienced West Point parents suggested sending the cadets with these form letters to help them quickly get a report home that includes the information parents want. It now seems like a really great idea since Warren definitely is in a crunch for time. The “smoke sessions” he mentions are intense physical exercise intervals, including holding the down position of a push-up for 30 seconds at a time, etc. The Cadre is the leadership of their summer training.

As an explanation, we visited the Naval Academy over our Spring Break trip to DC. Nice that Warren already sees the superiority of USMA over USNA. 🙂
A transcription for those in need: My immediate cadre is relatively chill. Our squad leader is a sprint football player who gets disappointed, not upset. Our platoon sgt is like a red-headed Tyson Williams who swear in about every sentence but with the same mannerisms otherwise. Sgt Weaver is a squad sgt in another platoon that lives next to our platoon, same company. I’m in company F3, second squad.
