There are 4 different jobs that the Plebes(Freshman) rotate between on a weekly basis. You can take out trash every morning, sweep the hallways, get the company’s laundry to and from the laundry service, or call minutes – basically yelling what the uniform is, what we are eating, and where we are meeting for formations before breakfast and lunch. A Cadet In Charge(CIC) is appointed over the different duties each week and this week I was in charge of laundry. Normally laundry is the easiest duty, requiring only one early morning to collect everyone’s laundry and drop it off at the laundry service and about 20 minutes in an afternoon to redistribute it once it has been cleaned. This week was different though because we had a formal dinner on Thursday evening that everyone needed a fancy uniform for. The only problem was almost everyone’s jacket was at the tailor’s getting the correct rank insignia sewn onto the sleeves. These all had to be collected in batches throughout the week and that task fell to me as the laundry CIC. Our company’s First Sergeant, my boss’s boss’s boss’s boss, would text me about twice a day that there were more jackets to be picked up immediately. The cherry on top for laundry duties this week was that, due to the parade we had before dinner on Thursday, our laundry didn’t get dropped off where it was supposed to, so I had to run around for an hour before I found it on the opposite end of campus from where it should have been. All of this happened in a week where I had 4 midterms, which was a fun bit of stress that made it all the more exciting.
