On Thursday Elder Gibbs and I were visiting the elders in another town when the elders we live with called to tell us that our house had been broken into during the day. Someone had climbed over our house, into the interior courtyard, bent the metal bars over the window, and slid the window open. From there, they picked through our stuff, taking a lot of valuable things like money and electronics, and a lot of pretty worthless stuff like flip-flops and one of the other elder’s pajama pants. They were a pretty lousy robber though because they missed wallets, one elder’s airpods and bluetooth keyboard, and a lot of other things that were sitting in plain sight. The biggest things I lost were my backpack, the equivalent of $30 USD, and an inexpensive bluetooth keyboard. The inconvenient things that got stolen from me were my razor, my shower shoes, and my jump-rope. I can think of no good reason why anyone would want to steal these things and not some of the other things that I had laying around, but I guess it happens.

We cleaned up a little bit and made lists of everything we lost, then went to the police station to file a report. We ended up waiting for 2 hours before getting told to try again in the morning. The next morning, we spent 3 more hours at the police station, but eventually talked to someone who took our lists and names. The person who broke in also stole a bunch of spare keys that were in the house, so a locksmith came to change all of the exterior locks in the afternoon and a welder came to fix the bars. We’ve been promised that they’re also going to add more bars on the windows and put alarms in, but we’ll see how it plays out.

Anyway, I hope you all had a better week than I did. Remember that Jesus knows and loves you!
