We went on an awesome little hike this morning to a small waterfall. It’s the only interesting thing to see in the entire area, but I wasn’t super motivated to go see it, which is why it took 5 months for it to happen. We walked through the jungle on an unmarked trail, scaring away tropical birds and trying not to get bitten by too many insects when the waterfall just appeared out of nowhere. We were the only people there so we got to take some decent pictures. Then we went back to our apartment and made French toast for breakfast. It was fun to change up our P-day schedule for the day.
Our group of ~20 missionaries here in the north had a conference meeting with our mission president this week. We talked mostly about how we can work more effectively, but he also talked about how in northern Salta, where I am, there are unique challenges that make it harder to work effectively than the rest of the mission, but that helps the missionaries learn how to work and lead better than any other area in the mission. He compared this north area to Zion’s Camp. For those who need a refresher on Zion’s Camp like I did, it was a small militia formed by early church members to fight against hostile mobs. It ended with about half the group becoming leaders in the church and the other half dying from mosquito-born illness. So imagine our reactions when, right after President made the comparison, his wife got up and told us that northern Salta is the Dengue Hotspot of Argentina right now.
Anyways, stay hydrated and remember that Jesus loves you!
