I got robbed again this week! At least it was in person this timeā¦ We were teaching a lesson at someone’s door and a very drunk dude who was walking up the street stopped and stood by us. We were continuing with our lesson when the drunk guy grabbed my water bottle out of my bag and then stumbled off. It wasn’t worth getting into a fight with drunk guy over a cheap water bottle so we just went on teaching our lessonš¤· On the broad spectrum of encounters with drunk people, I would consider this experience a win.
The traditional meal times are really interesting. It’s like the meal schedule that the hobbits follow in the Lord of the Rings. Breakfast generally consists of tea (mate) and the Argentine version of donuts at around 10am in the morning. Lunch is the main meal and is eaten in the early afternoon around 1:30. After lunch, everyone takes huge nap (siesta) until 5pm. Over the next two hours, everyone sits outside of their house and drinks more mate with bread. Dinner happens anywhere from 9pm until midnight and is another full meal. The only exception to this meal schedule is when it is ridiculously hot and the evening tea time gets moved back an hour or so. It’s difficult to understand the cultural significance of mate until you walk through a neighborhood in the evening and everyone is socializing together over hot tea and bread at their little tables, regardless of the temperature outside.
I’m super excited with the progress and potential of our area right now. We are finally to the point where people that we found when we first got here are going to get baptized soon. It has been so awesome to see the excitement and true joy that people have from learning about Jesus Christ.
