What a week! School has really been getting into the swing of things,
I started working out with our company Sandhurst team (explanation below), I donated
blood, and we had another big tradition this weekend.

School has been getting more manageable, and I’ve really tried to stop
working at 10:30pm so I can get more sleep. Sandhurst is a military
skills competition hosted by West Point where a bunch of different
academies from the world send teams to compete. I have a spot on our
company’s team and we started working out together this week. For the
sake of keeping this short, I’m not going to dive into this, but know
that donating blood was a total comedy of errors, but I did walk away
with a lot of girl scout cookies.

Ring Weekend is when the Firsties(Seniors) get their class rings. The
ceremony happens close to the Hudson, then they try to get back to the
barracks, change out of their fancy white uniforms into civilian
clothes, and leave with their families as fast as possible. The major
obstacle in this, however, is that the Plebes(Freshman) are trying to
stop them in order to recite the Ring Poop which goes as follows:

“Oh my gosh, Sir/Ma’am! What a beautiful ring!
What a crass mass of brass and glass!
What a bold mold of rolled gold!
What a cool jewel you got from your school!
See how it sparkles and shines!
It must have cost you a fortune!
May I touch it?! May I touch it please, Sir/Ma’am?!”

Upon completion, the Firstie will give permission for the amassed
crowd of Plebes to touch their new ring. The goal with this is to be
as obnoxious as possible. Plebes swarm Firsties and try to steal their
hats so they have to stay and listen. Most Firsties are good sports
and will run from you for a little bit then give up when you get their
hats, but some just bowl through Plebes which is also quite
entertaining to watch. Most of the ladies are in skirts and heels for
this uniform, so they just slowly walk along, getting stopped every 5
feet or so. This is one of the nights where no holds are barred.
Everyone is in a different fancy uniform, running around getting
sweaty, so it’s super fun.

Good luck to everyone about to start college!
