My first week of college was only slightly overwhelming. Chemistry has been an absolute beast and I can’t remember how to do u-substitutions to save my life but other than that it has been great. We have day one classes three times a week and day two twice, but teachers have the same classes both days, so day one classes get dropped about 10 times throughout the semester to balance out the days. We also have study days every other week which are just a time to get your feet under you. I’ve been going to bed around 12 and getting up around 6 for morning formation which isn’t super sustainable, but weekends are almost entirely free so naps and sleeping in is definitely the move. It started off super overwhelming but I’m getting a better grasp of the workload and I’m also making time for myself and for scripture study which is good for my mental health. As it turns out, noise cancelling headphones have proven to be the most underrated investment.

My “As for Class” uniform

We had a spirit dinner this week. For this, all of the upperclassmen wear civilian clothes while Plebes have to wear stuff that was issued. The instructions of “wear stuff that you were issued” gets taken to the extreme and people show up wearing the weirdest combination of tactical equipment, dress uniforms, and office supplies. I saw one kid with a printer duct taped to his back. During the dinner, people go crazy. Plebes fill water pitchers with milk then have competitions to see who can chug it the fastest. There’s no feeling quite like walking outside the mess hall and seeing a Plebe projectile vomiting straight milk into a corner.
