First, the obligatory: Happy New Year!
I had a great New Year’s Eve. We had a pretty regular Sunday with our main meetings in the morning and 4 hours of planning visits and lessons for the week in the afternoon. In the evening we went to the house of the district president, the person in charge of several of the local congregations. We enjoyed our extended curfew and had a nice dinner of traditional New Year’s food. I don’t know what it was, but it tasted good. It’s also a tradition to wear white on New Year’s Eve, so we were conveniently well dressed in our white shirts.
We got to baptize our friend Milton! His whole extended family are members of the church who stopped coming over the past couple of years. We’ve been working with his family since I got here to help them start being active participants again. Milton’s baptism, all of his family that came to it, and church the next day felt like a huge milestone in working with this family.
My Spanish has gotten to the point where I can make jokes and witty comments again and it feels so freeing. It’s like I have my personality back.
In another interesting twist, my stomach is very healthy and the other three elders I live with are super sick. I’m not sure how because we eat all of the same food, but it’s a welcome change. It feels like turning over a new leaf because I’ve been sick since I was in Mexico and finally feel like my stomach is adjusted to the quality of food and water here.
Anyways, thanks for reading. Know that Jesus loves you!
